Commission for the Blind
New Mexico is proud of its Commission for the Blind. We all become weary of hearing that we live in on of the poorest states in the country. Yet, the NMCFB provides more money per capita for techonology, education, and other services than all other agencies around the country serving the blind community. When compared against other blind agencies, the NMCFB ranks at, or near the top, in all nationally-measured categories. We send people to college and other educational institutions, provide computer equipment and other adaptive tools, and teach them how to use the technology. Most of all, we help blind people find meaningful, good paying jobs. All of this is helped by a strong union base. We were the first state agency (never having a union before) to organize a majority of its employees and also to form a local labor--management committee (an important facet of our first bargaininged contract.)
We welcome members and guests to our section of the SEA-CWA website.
