Take Legislative Action Update -- January 28th 2010

The battle is on! Today, Thursday, January 28, two crucial revenue bills will be heard in the House Business and Industry Committee at 1:30 p.m. in Room 309. If there is any way you can attend this hearing, please do. Call Carter Bundy at 505-463-8499 and he'll make sure you have all the talking points if you want to testify.
If you can't make it in person to the Roundhouse today, we need you to call and email the committee right NOW! (And get your friends and family to do the same). Big business is up here advocating for state layoffs, furloughs, and paycuts, and if YOU don't provide a different voice, that's exactly what will happen. They have a lot more lobbyists than we do, but we have all of you, and that's what levels the playing field. Call and email NOW!
Simply say that you want the representative to vote FOR House Bill 35 (cigarette tax) and FOR House Bill 62 (combined reporting--making out-of-state corporations pay the same tax as New Mexico companies).
Unfortunately, all the Republicans on House Business and Industry are committed to cuts instead of revenue, and are voting against these bills. We need seven of the eight Democratic votes, so please call all eight Dems. If you only have time for a few calls, try Chair Rodella, Rep. Campos and Rep. Jeff first. Everything is area code 505.
