Legislative Finance Committee Report and Gov. Richardson's Plan
January 6th, 2010
Public Employees' Future Uncertain
Beginning January 19th, New Mexico Legislators and Governor Richardson will have the financial future of tens of thousands of Public Employees in their hands. CWA 7076 calls all members to action. Our mission will be to define ourselves to the legislature, the Governor, the public, and the media. We are working families with bills to pay, groceries to buy and, considering the pay cuts and furloughs endured over the past two years, we're doing all this with less and less money. Where is the line? How much of a pay cut will be too much? Why are the elected leaders continuing to seek out this line instead of looking for other revenue options?
Legislators must realize that they cannot keep cutting people's pay and cutting essential government services and expect nothing adverse to happen. Public Employees make up a huge percentage of this state's labor force. We're not paint and window decor, we're the foundation!
