The Health Security for New Mexicans Campaign is a broad coalition of organizations and individuals working for health care coverage for all New Mexicans. HCFA is asking the legislature to fund a study comparing several models of coverage and of financing universal health care. Health care in New Mexico is in a deepening crisis: almost one out of four New Mexicans is uninsured; one out of five New Mexico children has no health insurance; and most uninsured or underinsured adults are working people. In the past year alone, insurance premiums rose between 16 and 30 percent. Co-pays and deductibles are increasing and pharmaceutical drug costs are rising. - The United States Department of Labor
The Department ff Labor (DOL) is charged with defending worker's rights that unions have fought so hard for over our history. DOL fosters and promotes the welfare of the job seekers, wage earners, and retirees of the United States by improving their working conditions, advancing their opportunities for profitable employment, protecting their retirement and health care benefits, helping employers find workers, strengthening free collective bargaining, and tracking changes in employment, prices, and other national economic measurements. In carrying out this mission, the Department administers a variety of Federal labor laws including those that guarantee workers' rights to safe and healthful working conditions; a minimum hourly wage and overtime pay; freedom from employment discrimination; unemployment insurance; and other income support.
